Cooking with Beer

Beer. Malty, biscuity and sometimes-bitter-but-ultimately-tasty beer. You’re there for us on a hot day to quench our thirst. You’re there to help cheer on the home team. You share in celebratory toasts among friends, reminding us to slow down, unwind and enjoy. You’ve always been there, beer. And today we salute you.

In celebration of International Beer Day – yes, that’s a thing – we decided to wade through the interwebs in hopes of uncovering recipes with a hoppy twist. The following finds will set you up nicely for a fully beer-infused feast followed by a decadent dessert.

Orange-and-Ale Vinaigrette

Light and zesty, this dressing we found at The Bitten Word will light up even the simplest of salads. Mix with radicchio, arugula, pecans, orange segments and a few sprigs of chicory. If you’re preparing in advance for a dinner party or planning your meals out for the week, it can be refrigerated for up to 5 days.

Beer Can Chicken

Before you question our recommendation to thrust a can of beer up the rear of a chicken, hear us out. It’s also just fun to thrust a can of beer up the rear of a chicken. Just ask the folks at Brooklyn Brew Shop. They have a truly impressive library of beer recipes.

Beer-Poached Pears with Chocolate Sauce

Pears are a great source of dietary fibre, vitamin C and vitamin K. Which is why you shouldn’t feel too guilty about smothering them in dark chocolate. Treehugger breaks it down beautifully step-by-step, helping us create a delicious denouement that will impress any dinner guest.

Not in the mood for messing up the kitchen or running short on time? Try pairing Luvo’s Sweet Potato & Butternut Squash Enchiladas with a pale lager or our Tandoori-Inspired Spiced Chicken with your favourite IPA.

Hoppy International Beer Day (see how I did that?) – salut!
