5 Surprisingly Delicious BBQ Tips

Warm weather means more opportunities to get outside and fire up the grill! The smell of sizzling deliciousness being kissed by BBQ flames is pretty much the smell of summer.

Everyone knows about the usual grilling suspects – hot dogs, burgers, steaks, kebabs – but why not get creative with your grilling? Many foods taste absolutely delicious when grilled, and the possibilities are really only limited by your imagination  (and maybe your grilling skills). To help broaden your grilling horizons and maybe even make you the talk of the next backyard BBQ, we’ve got a few suggestions. You might never have thought of grilling these things before, but after trying them on the BBQ, you might never eat them any other way!

Pineapple

Whether you add a few chunks to your next skewer, or put thick slices directly on the grill, pineapple gets a smoky, caramelized flavor when grilled. For an even more interesting flavor experience, try marinating it for at least 30 minutes in a bit of oil and some spicy seasonings of your choice. Then pop it on the grill for about three minutes on each side and let the yumminess ensue.

Pizza

Yup… that’s right! You can grill your pizza! It’s really simple – just prepare your dough as you normally would, but instead of putting it in the oven, brush it in oil and place it on the grill. Once it’s cooked on one side, flip it over and top it with your ingredients. Make sure the grill isn’t too hot so your toppings can cook without burning the dough (closing the lid helps, too). Once everything’s all melty and delicious on top, remove your pizza from the grill and enjoy!

Apples

Want to take your charcuterie game AND your BBQ game to the next level at the same time?! Try grilling some apple slices to include on your next plate of fancy meet and cheese. An excellent combo: grilled apples, blue cheese, honey and toasted nuts of your choice. For optimal apple grilling, soak apple slices in water so they stay juicy, then brush them in oil or butter before grilling for about 5 minutes per side. You can also sprinkle the grilled slices with your favorite spices for even more deliciousness.

Asparagus

Grilling asparagus might seem tricky, but just make sure the spears don’t slip through the grill cracks and you’ll be good to go. Toss them in some olive oil and salt and pepper, then them for about five minutes, turning them every minute or so for even cooking. Sprinkle with some Parmesan cheese and a fresh squeeze of lemon juice and prepare for a flavor explosion!

Peaches

Another very grillable fruit, peaches take on a more complex sweetness when caramelized on the grill. Simply cut them in half, remove the pit, brush lightly with oil, and grill for about four minutes, turning once for even grilling. Try chopping up the grilled peaches to add a sweet twist to your favorite homemade salsa recipe.

Happy grilling!
