How to Make Your Salad Exciting!

Eating more vegetables can be as simple as adding more salad to your life, but what if the idea of eating a salad bores you to tears? You’re not alone. It’s probably because you haven’t explored all the wonderful world of salad (yes, I just said that).

There’s much more to salad than mixed greens!Try taking a few of these salad-enhancing suggestions and getting more veggies and greens into your life might actually become enjoyable! Plus, salad makes a great side dish to our tasty, flash-frozen meals.

Go nuts!

Nuts add extra flavor, crunch and nutrients to your salad. Choose any kind you like, whether roasted, marinated or seasoned, and chop them up to spread the nutty goodness into every bite. Pro tip: walnuts are particularly delicious in a salad with spinach, goat cheese and strawberries.

Use different greens!

Who said salad was limited to the same old iceberg or green leaf lettuce? Different greens bring different flavors, so try mixing it up with some peppery arugula, hearty kale, and even crunchy, chopped Brussels sprouts!

Add roasted veggies!

Vegetables take on a whole new flavor when you roast them, especially when you season them with your favorite herbs and spices. Try roasting some chopped sweet potatoes tossed in a little olive oil, salt and pepper, and add them to your next salad for some extra substance and sweetness.

Get fruity!

Short of going full-on fruit salad, you can accent your greens with berries, grapefruit, watermelon or even dried versions of cranberries or goji berries! The sweetness of the fruit is a nice balance to the savory ingredients. For example, watermelon pairs particularly well with feta cheese.

Add cheese (duh)!

You’re probably familiar with a little shaved Parmesan on your Caesar salad, but what about trying a salad with some crumbled feta or, for the more adventurous, blue cheese? Blue cheese goes very nicely with pears, spinach, toasted walnuts and a light vinaigrette with a touch of natural sweetness from honey or maple syrup. Yum!

Try these tips and before you know it, you might just fall in love with salad!
