The Best White Wines

to pair with Luvo’s latest entrées

Luvo entrées are great on their own, of course, but if you’re looking to take them to an even higher degree on the taste experience scale, you might want to consider pairing your dish with a glass of wine. Since there is a lot of variety of flavors, sauces and seasonings in the latest entrées, we thought we’d offer a few suggestions for wine pairings, starting with the best white wines.

Keep in mind these are our personal impressions. There are no rules when it comes to wine and food matching—you have to follow your gut and taste buds. That being said, here’s a place to start. Feel free to debate and argue and test your own favorites.

Vegetable Coconut Curry Pilaf (pair with Gewürztraminer or Riesling)

Coconut curry is one of the world’s great culinary creations. A single spoonful transports you to the far east, to see the orange sun setting on a Thai island or the sweltering bustle of Vientiane. To suit the subtle sweetness and savory essence of this dish, you might want to consider a slightly off-dry Gewürztraminer or Riesling, with slight sweetness and fruit that match the exotic essence of what’s on your plate. Look to the French Alsace region or Germany for either.

Chicken in BBQ Sauce (pair with Cava)

Chicken pairs well with many different types of wine. This dish has a rich, flavorful BBQ sauce, along with savory potato and collard greens that make it a great match for a dry, sparkling white wine such as Cava. Cava is the name given to sparkling wine from Spain (mostly from the Catalonia region), just like Champagne is sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France. Along with its pleasant zesty and nutty flavors, Cava is noted for its great value—a decent bottle is usually available for about a third of the price of Champagne. It comes in varying degrees of sweetness, but I’d suggest a dry version for this tasty dish.

Vegetable Bibimbap (pair with Sauvignon Blanc or Albarino)

Vegetable dishes often pair well with crisp, tangy white wines. Sauvignon Blanc, known for flavors of citrus, stone fruit and herbaceousness, is a great match for this Vegetable Bibimbap. Look to New Zealand for a nice bottle. For an Old World option, try Albarino (known as Alvarinho in Portugal), a white variety that is plentiful in Galacia, a region in Northwest Spain and Portugal. Albarino is lightly fruity and refreshing and an ideal partner for this meal.

Roasted Vegetable Lasagna (pair with Chardonnay or Viognier)

With some richness from the butternut squash, whole wheat noodles and cheesy sauce, this dish is nicely complemented by a hearty white wine such as Chardonnay or Viognier. I’d recommend an oaky and toasty Chard from California. Viognier, known for its floral notes, is also planted extensively around the world, and especially common in Australia and California.
